Exciting athletics fixtures for 2019

Athletes will have ample opportunities to attempt qualification for regional, continental and international competitions. On the regional front, the various CAA-SR Championships will offer opportunities for Namibian athletes to test themselves against the region’s best athletes, while junior athletes will be able to test themselves against the continents best, with the World Championships slated for September. With the Olympic year next year, it promises to be an exciting year, with athletes setting themselves up to qualify and be ready for 2020 Olympics. The 2018 Dr Sam Nujoma National Half Marathon cancelled

Athletics Namibia regrets to inform that the 2018 version of the Dr Sam Nuyoma National Half Marathon has been cancelled. Unfortunately, the organising committee on the event was not able to meet all the requisite requirements for the event to be hosted successfully. Athletics Namibia successfully host the 2018 National Track & Field Championships

Athletics Namibia hosted the 2018 National Track & Field Championships from the 20 to 21 April 2018 in Windhoek. The event was action packed with various duels among athletes. The 400m men saw Ernst Narib pushed to the end by youngster Evan Dani Geldenhys (2nd) and Mahmad Bock (third) and delivered quality times of 46.55secs, 46.77secs and 47.19 secs, respectively. Jolene Jacobs retained her title in the 100m women with an impressive time of 11.54secs, while youth athlete Sade De Sousa also retained her 200m title with a time of 24.62 secs. Evan Tjiviu retained his 100m title in time of 10.54secs and also took the 200m title for men in a time of 21.04secs.  Athletics Namibia congratulates all the winners! The 2018 Namibia National Track & Field Championship slated for the 20 and 21 April 2018

The Namibian National Track & Field Championships will take place on the 20 and 21 April at the Independence Stadium, Olympia,  Windhoek. Athletes from all the regions of Namibia will contest to be crowned national champions in the various events in track and field. The top 8 athletes at the local events are invited by AN, while each region may select additional athletes to the nationals. Jolene Jacobs to represent Namibia at the World Indoor Championship in Birmingham

Jolene Jacobs will be the sole representative for Namibia at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. She will take part in the 60m meters.  Her selection follows her good times at indoor meets in Europe earlier in the month. She broke the Namibian National Indoor Record in the 60 meter of 7.50 seconds improving the 7.64 seconds set by Globine Mayova in 2012.  Athletics Namibia wishes her all the best at the Championships.

Athletes warmed up Otjiwarongo at the Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge third leg

It was action galore at the third leg of the Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge at Otjiwarongo on Saturday 24 February 2018 at the Pareisis Park. As expected the event did not disappoint with new emerging talent being unearthed. Gerson Kangwiya dominated both the 800m and 400m men and the races probably represented a change of guard after Daniel Nghipandulwa who has dominated the event over the last 12 years was out ran by the younger and upcoming athletes. Desiree Kandovazu continued her dominance of the 400 and 200m. In the sprints for juniors, Hummel Raymond is showing a lot of promise and should be a name to watch out for in the future. The event was jointly held together with the Securiatas Edugate Prestige Athletics event. Securitas Edugate Prestige High School Athletics and the Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge in Otjiwarongo this weekend

Athletes from athletics club across Namibia will decent on to Otjiwarongo for the 2018 third leg of the Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge. The event is jointly held with the Securitas Edugate Presitige High School Competition. Some of Namibia’s top athletes such as Hitjivirue Kaanjuka, Globine Majova and the upcoming sensation in the 400m men Auchamab Thasiso will be in action. The event will also some athletes from marginalized communities in action. Jan Piet and Oba Kao from the Cattle Country Athletics Club from Gobabis will test themselves against Namibia’s best athletes in the 800meters. The event starts at 08h00 on Saturday 24 February 2018 at the Paresis Park, Otjiwarongo.

The Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge continues to grow

The Coca Cola Regional Club Challenge saw a large turn up by athletes and exciting duels in various events. About 200 athletes decented on to Oshakati from across Namibia for the 2nd leg of the Coca Cola Regional Club in Oshakati highlighting the growing popularity of the event.  The event that kicked of with a 10 000 meters at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday 17 February 2018, saw winner Mainhardt Kauanivi of the NAMPOL Athletics Club being pushed and delivering a race that kept the crowd on their feet. He clocked a time of 31 minutes 08.06seconds, followed by Kaundinge Stafanus in 33 minutes 26.32 seconds after Reinhold Thomas abandoned the race in the last round. The event also saw athletes from marginalised communities showing their potentials. Piet Jan of the Cattle Country Athletics Club from Gobabis came ended fourth in the 10000 meters. Desiree Kandovazu continued her dominance in the women’s 200 and 400 meters. Aochamub Thasiso of the Future Energy Luderitz Athletics Club proving that beating the Ernst Narib the 400m Champion as few weeks ago, was not a fluke.
