Christine Mboma sets a new Namibian record in the women 200m

Chritine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi took part in their first major international competition at the Josef Odlozil Memorial competition in Prague, Czech Republic. Christine won the women 200m in a new Meet record time of 22.67 seconds and in the process setting a new Namibian record. Christine powered from behind to beat Gina Bass of Gambia and her compatriot Beatrice Masilingi into second and third place, at the finish line respectively. Beatrice also put in a good time of 22.82 seconds in third place. Christine and Beatrice have both qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in a few weeks time.

AN Grand Prix Leg 2 cancelled

The Athletics Namibia Grand Prix Leg 2 which was scheduled to take place on 20 March 2021 at the Rietfontein National Youth Service Centre was called off due COVID-19 cases reported at the centre. Athletics Namibia was briefed of the situation at the centre late Thursday afternoon and in the interest of the health of all involved called off the event. A new date will be determined for the Rietfontein leg of the series. The third leg in Oshakati on the 27 March 2021 will go ahead as planned.

All set for the first AN Grand Prix Leg1 in Swakopmund

The first leg of the AN Grand Prix Leg 1, in 2021, will take place tomorrow 13 March 2021, at the Vineta Stadium, Swakopmund. The response from the athletics club has been excellent and fireworks are expected in the various events on offer. The competition will kick-off at 10h00 and the link to follow will be made available. In line with the COVID-19 Regulations, the event is closed to the public, however, it will be livestreamed. Beatrice equals the national record in the girls 100m at the MTC National Youth Games in Rientfontein during day 1.

Beatrice Masilingi gave excellent performance at the MTC National Youth Games currently under way in Rientfontein. She clocked 11.38 seconds in the 100m, while she also ran an excellent time in the girls 400m of 51.07seconds. Silver Tuane also had an excellent day in the girls shot put, throwing a new Namibia National Record of 14.56m, which is just a few milimeters of the World Youth qualification standards. Action will continue in Day 2 and final day of the competition.

Martha Emvula new Secretary General of Athletics Namibia

Martha Emvula has been elected as Athletics Namibia Secretary General at the annual Congress of Athletics Namibia on 28 November 2020. This follows the resignation of Madeleine Kotze due to personal reasons. Athletics Namibia is thankful to Madeleine who has done a tremendous job in improving the administration and communication of Athletics Namibia since taking over the reigns of SG at the end of 2017. Madeleine has done sterling work and contributed enormously to the transformation of Athletics Namibia. Athletics Namibia wishes her well in her future endeavours. Martha is a veteran volunteer in athletics in Namibia and has served AN in various capacities prior to her election as SG. Athletics Namibia is excited to have her on board and for her to pickup where her predecessor has left off.

Athletics Namibia successfully hosts the 2020 National Track & Field Championships

The Independence Stadium in Olympia in Windhoek was treated to very exciting athletics duels in various events. The event was well organised and on time. According to Athletics Namibia president, Mr Erwin Naimhwaka, the most exciting thing about the Championships was that the youth and junior athletes did exceptionally well. In his view this holds promise and exciting future for athletics in Namibia. He thanked the organisers, the sponsor, Namibia Coca Cola Bottling Company, and Mitsubishi Motors. AN resumes with athletics activities

Athletics Namibia is resuming with its activities. This is after the athletics events were halted and postponed due to Covid 19 state of emergency regulations. There are still 3 track and field events to go.  AN Grand prix leg 4 will be on the 31 October at Independence Stadium in  Windhoek. Grand prix leg 5 will take place in Oshakati on 07th November.  AN senior National track and  field championship will take place in Windhoek on the 13-14 November 2020. Entry forms for leg 4 is already out to regions and Athletics clubs across the country are expected to submit entries for their athletes with entries ending in the 28 October 2020. “With the National youth games slated for December, these grand prix legs will provide junior athletes a chance to prepare well for the youth games” “We expect more entries as athletes are eager to return back to competition.  Some athletes have been really working hard to improve their performances.” Athletes are also looking forward to the grand prix  legs to improve their world and national rankings.  With the regulations in gatherings relaxed, AN expect few spectators and for the well being of the athletes and public, all health protocols will be observed. Athletics Namibia suspends events and competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Athletics Namibia has suspended all athletics events for duration of 30 days as declared by the Government and Namibia Sports Commission. In line with the national efforts to prevent and minimise the COVID-19 virus infections, Athletics Namibia has decided to follow suit and suspend all athletics events for the period declared by the Government of 30 days.
